Abidjan, 8 March, 2012 - The Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) for West Africa, Mr. Said Djinnit held a meeting in Abidjan with Côte d’Ivoire President Mr. Alassane Dramane Ouattara who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He also met with the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Daniel Kablan Duncan, and the Minister in charge of Regional integration, Mr. Adama Bictogo.

The United Nations envoy for West African today underlined the Organization’s determination to strengthen partnership with countries in the region to effectively combat threats to stability, including piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, drug trafficking and organized crime, as well as the food crisis and insecurity in the Sahel belt.

Young people in Guinea will receive skills training that will help them find jobs under a new project set up today by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the Government of Japan.

Abidjan, 7 March 2012 - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Bert Koenders, the interim Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Liberia, Moustapha Soumaré, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa, Saïd Djinnit, ended on 7 March 2012 in Abidjan, a meeting aimed at evaluating cross-border cooperation between the UN missions in Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia, UNOCI and UNMIL.
