Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the situation in Burkina Faso

New York, 30 October 2014- The Secretary-General is following with great concern the deteriorating security situation in Burkina Faso. He calls on all parties to end the use of violence, exercise calm and restraint, and use dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues.

Said Djinnit: "Je demeure optimiste quant à l'avenir de l'Afrique de l'Ouest"


Au terme de son mandat de six ans et demi à la tête du Bureau des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest (UNOWA), l’ancien Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest, a tenu à dire au revoir à la communauté des médias. Handover ceremony between Djinnit and Chambas, the new Special Representative for West Africa

Dakar, Octobre 09, 2014- The handover ceremony between Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the new Special Representative of the Secretary General for the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA), and his predecessor, Said Djinnit, took place this Thursday, October 9th, 2014, at UNOWA headquarters in Dakar, Senegal.

Mr. Chambas praised the work of Mr. Djinnit for the more than six years date he served as head of the Office. For his part, Said Djinnit wished success to his successor, "a connoisseur of the sub-region"

Mr. Chambas was appointed by the Secretary General of the UN as his Special Representative for West Africa and head of UNOWA, September 12th, 2014. Mr. Djinnit has been appointed by Ban Ki-moon as his Special Envoy for the Great Lakes.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS MOHAMMED IBN CHAMBAS OF GHANA

New York, 12 September 2014 - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Mohammed Ibn Chambas of Ghana as his Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA).  Mr. Chambas will succeed Said Djinnit of Algeria to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his dedication and effective leadership of UNOWA.
