8 May 2013 - Together with the two national facilitators, Said Djinnit issued a statement yesterday expressing concerns about the raise of violent incidents during demonstrations related to the electoral process in Guinea. The statement welcomes the decision of the opposition leaders to postpone the demonstration which was scheduled to take place in Conakry today. The facilitators call on to all the Guineans to contribute to the restoration of a peaceful atmosphere in the country in accordance with the "anti-violence declaration" signed by the Government and the political parties on 24 April. Said Djinnit urges the political parties to resume an inclusive dialogue without delay. He is pursuing further consultations with the parties today.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa, Said Djinnit, is in the Conakry (Guinea) since Tuesday, in his capacity as International Facilitator, pursuing consultations with the Guinean parties in an attempt to restore the political dialogue. In view of the escalation of violence noted over the past weeks on the occasion of the public demonstrations, the international facilitator had appealed to the Opposition to postpone its demonstration scheduled for today.

New York, 24 April 2013 - The Secretary-General welcomes the progress made toward the resumption of the political dialogue in Guinea. He is particularly encouraged by the signing, on 23 April, of a joint declaration between the Government, the opposition and the Presidential camp. The joint declaration calls on all political parties to refrain from any violent demonstrations and confirms their determination to resolve outstanding issues through peaceful and negotiated solutions. The Secretary-General also welcomes the statement made by President Alpha Condé, on 24 April, in which he expressed his readiness to implement all necessary measures with a view to guarantee the transparency and the credibility of the electoral process, with the involvement of international partners.

The Secretary-General calls for calm and urges Guineans to refrain from all acts likely to undermine the ongoing peaceful and democratic process in the country. New york, 14 January 2013 - The Secretary-General is closely following the situation in Mali. He spoke on Saturday with the President of Côte d'Ivoire and Chair of ECOWAS, Mr. Alassane Ouattara, who briefed him on the upcoming ECOWAS summit planned for 19 January in Abuja and the plans of several of its member states to deploy military forces. The Secretary-General spoke yesterday with the Foreign Minister of France, Mr. Laurent Fabius, who informed him on the ongoing French military operations in support of Mali's urgent request.

10 January 2013 - The members of the Security Council express their grave concern over the reported military movements and attacks by terrorist and extremist groups in the north of Mali, in particular their capture of the city of Konna, near Mopti. This serious deterioration of the situation threatens even more the stability and integrity of Mali and constitutes a direct threat to international peace and security.

13 December 2012 - The members of the Security Council held consultations on Guinea-Bissau on 11 December 2012, with the participation of Joseph Mutaboba, Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS). The Permanent Representative of Morocco, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee established pursuant to UNSC Resolution 2048, also briefed Council member on the activities of the Committee.

New York, 11 December 2012 - The Secretary-General is troubled by the circumstances leading to the resignation of Mali's Prime Minister, Mr. Cheick Modibo Diarra. The Secretary-General calls again for a cessation of military interference in politics and urges the Malian leadership to resolve any issues through peaceful means.
These latest developments underscore the importance of sustained national and international efforts to address the political crisis in Bamako. The Secretary-General calls on the Interim President, Mr. Dioncounda Traore, to expeditiously initiate consultations on the appointment of a consensual Prime Minister and the formation of a broad-based inclusive government. The Secretary-General stresses the urgency of moving forward with the National Dialogue in Mali in order to define a consensual roadmap for the transition that includes the holding of elections and leads to the full restoration of constitutional order and territorial integrity. The Secretary-General stands ready to use his good offices and relevant United Nations presences on the ground to continue to support Mali in addressing the crisis.

11 December 2012 - The members of the Security Council condemn the arrest, on 10 December 2012, of the Prime Minister of Mali, Mr Cheick Modibo Diarra, by members of the Malian Armed Forces, which led to the resignation of the Prime Minister and the dismissal of the Government of Mali. They further stress that such an event contravenes repeated calls in resolutions 2056 (2012) and 2071 (2012) that the Malian Armed Forces cease interfering in the work of the Transitional authorities of Mali.
