Accra, Ghana, 19 May 2015 - I am pleased to convey my warm greetings to the 47th Ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This Summit takes place at a time of trial and opportunity in the region, and indeed, around the world. Let me begin by commending the role of ECOWAS and its leadership -- in close cooperation with the United Nations -- towards the peaceful holding of the recent general elections in Nigeria.

Mohamed Ibn Chambas welcomes the invitation extended by the President the Republic of Guinea, M. Alpha Condé to the leader of the Guinean opposition, M. Cellou Dalein Diallo to a meeting in an effort to ease political tensions in the country.

Statement by the SG on the One-Year Anniversary of the Abduction of Schoolgirls in Chibok

New York, 14 April 2015- One year ago, over 276 girls were abducted by Boko Haram from their school in Chibok, Borno State, in north-eastern Nigeria. While some of the girls were fortunate to have escaped, the fate of many still remains unknown. We must never forget the kidnapped Chibok girls, and I will not stop calling for their immediate release and their safe return to their families.
