UN-backed panel on Cameroon-Nigeria border demarcation concludes latest session

26 April 2013 – Representatives from Cameroon and Nigeria wrapped up today their 31st meeting on demarcation of the boundary between the two countries, deciding to resume the pillar emplacement project, according to the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA).

XXXI ST Meeting of the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission

Yaoundé, 26 April 2013 – The Commission on demarcation of the border between Cameroon and Nigeria has closed its thirty-first (31) session today in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission is composed of official delegations from Cameroon and Nigeria, led respectively by Mr. Amadou Ali, Vice-Prime Minister and Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, Minister of Justice. It is chaired by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa, Mr. Said Djinnit.

Security Council unanimously approves new UN peacekeeping mission in Mali

25 April 2013 – The Security Council today approved a 12,600-strong United Nations peacekeeping operation to take over from the African-led mission in Mali on 1 July and authorized the blue helmets “to use all necessary means” to carry out security-related stabilization tasks, protect civilians, UN staff and cultural artefacts, and create the conditions for the provision of humanitarian aid.

UN Security Council extends arms embargo on Cote d’Ivoire

25 April 2013 – Maintaining that Cote d’Ivoire was still vulnerable to instability fuelled by available weapons, the United Nations Security Council today extended its arms embargo on the West African country as well as financial and travel sanctions on those who threaten the peace, until 30 April 2014.
