Said Djinnit to visit Conakry and Abuja

12 October 2010 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa, Said Djinnit will travel to Guinea tomorrow 13 October 2010. The objective of the visit is to extend the support of the United Nations to ongoing efforts to create the conditions for a peaceful second round of Presidential election, which is scheduled on 24 October 2010. On this occasion, he will meet with Interim President Sékouba Konaté and the two candidates to the presidential election, Alpha Condé and Cellou Dalein Diallo.

Said Djinnit will then travel to Abuja for a consultative meeting with James Victor Gbeho, the President of Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Thursday 14 October 2010. They will talk about the situation in the sub region in general and issues of mutual concern such as the situation in Guinea and in Niger. They will also discuss cross border and cross cutting matters related to peace and security that include upcoming elections, drug trafficking and organized crime, security sector reform, human rights and gender in the sub-region.
