Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Preserve human rights in addressing new threats to peace and security in West Africa

Dakar, April 3, 2013 - A meeting dedicated to new threats to human rights from the perspective of sub-regional peace and security in West Africa, was held in Dakar today at the United NationsInformation Center (UNIC). It was jointly organized by the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) and the United Nations Political Office in Mali (UNOM).
