Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Increasing the participation of women in conflict resolution in West Africa

Dakar, 7 October 2011 - The second session of the Regional Training Series on Mediation for 32 Women Leaders from Civil Society in West Africa ended on Friday. The three-fold training is designed to strengthen the capacities of women Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries in techniques of mediation, advocacy, negotiation and implementation of Peace agreements.
