Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Launching of the Regional Database « Women and Men toward Peace and Stability in West Africa»

Dakar/Abidjan, 13 February 2014 - The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) officially launched the Database on "Gender, Women, Peace and Security in West Africa" on Thursday 13 February, in Abidjan.
