Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Mr. Djinnit condemns the renewal of heinous attacks in Nigeria Dakar,

Dakar, 24 July 2014 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for West Africa and High Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Nigeria, Mr. Said Djinnit, strongly condemns the killing of civilians perpetrated over the week-end and yesterday reportedly by the Boko Haram group in the town of Damboa, in Borno State, and in Kaduna, in Kaduna State.
