Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Regional strategy to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea

Dakar, 26 October 2013 - The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) met today in Dakar, with the support of the United Nations, to discuss the implementation of the regional strategy on maritime safety and security in the Gulf of Guinea.
