Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Said Djinnit discussed the situation in West Africa with President Alassane Ouattara

Abidjan, le 24 April 2012 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa, Said Djinnit met on Wednesday in Abidjan with Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d’Ivoire and President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). They exchanged on the evolution of the political and security situation in West Africa in the last few months.
