Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Said Djinnit visits Guinea and Benin

Dakar, 7 October 2011 - Following a two-day visit to Conakry aiming to promote dialogue among political actors in Guinea, Mr. Said Djinnit, Special Representative of the Secretary- General for West Africa traveled to Benin to discuss transnational organized crime and maritime piracy with the National Authorities.
