Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

SRSG Mohamed Ibn Chambas condemns the bomb attacks in Nigeria

Dakar, November 28, 2014- The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and High Level Representative of the Secretary-General to Nigeria, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, firmly condemns yesterday and today’s bomb attacks near Mubi, Adamawa, and at Kano Central Mosque, in Nigeria, that left scores of innocent civilians dead and injured.
