Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Conakry Regional Round Table on 1325

Conakry, 15 April 2011 -The Regional Partners Round Table on the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 1325 and 1820 on Women Peace and Security took place in Conakry on 15 April 2011 as a follow-up to the Dakar Forum that took place in September 2010. The opening session was chaired by the President of Guinea and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General. The Directory of Institutions Working for Peace and Security in West Africa was launched on that occasion.
