Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Transparent management of natural resources, a key indicator of good governance

Dakar, 27 March 2015 – The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) organized on 26 March 2015, a discussion session on “natural resources: a security, governance and human rights challenge in West Africa”. These discussions are part of a series of consultative meetings called "Arbre à Palabre" which is a platform for informal exchanges on the state of governance, human rights, peace and security in West Africa.
