Closure of UNOWA

The United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) was established in January 2002 to promote political stability in the region. Its mandate ended in January 2016, when it merged with the Office of the Special Envoy for the Sahel (OSES) to form the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

Said Djinnit welcomes the start of the substantive discussion in Guinea

Conakry, 5 june 2013 - Said Djinnit welcomed the start of the substantive discussions between the Government and the opposition ahead of the legislative elections. He has reported that the discussions took place in a constructive spirit seeking the necessary compromises for the holding of free, fair and peaceful elections. Mr. Djinnit has called on all parties to refrain from any action or declaration which could undermine these positive steps.
